Records In Jeopardy At Healthy Kidney 10K

New York Road Runner;s LogoA fantastic race is shaping up for the 2009 edition of the Healthy Kidney 10K that will take place on May 16th in Central Park.  Returning champion Patrick Makau of Kenya hopes to repeat, although he will face some stiff competition.  Ethiopian Tadese Tola has already announced he plans to run sub-28 on the course, which would break the current course record of 28:08 held by two-time US Olympian Dathan Ritzenheim.  Americans Anthony Famiglietti and Abdi Abdiraham, both 2008 Olympians, will lead the American charge to thwart the ever-dominant East Africans’ efforts to claim yet another victory.  Other contenders will include Martin Fagan of Ireland and Abderrahime Bouramdane of Morocco.

Originally two time NYC Marathon champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos, of Brazil, was scheduled to race.  However, his passport has, get this, been lost in the mail, which will keep him out of the country.  That’s just sad.
