To honor the sacrifices of fallen comrades, soldiers will run 26.2 miles in Iraq on Memorial Day.
In conjunction with the Memorial Day running of this year’s Los Angeles Marathon, a group of over 400 servicemen and -women will compete in the Taji Memorial Day Marathon and Half-Marathon. The Los Angeles Marathon has done a great service and sent over medals, shirts and even on-course nutition for the participants in Iraq. For the Los Angeles Marathon it is a great way to spin the move to Memorial Day, which has only brought grief to the event. The Los Angeles tradition has seen an almost 50 percent decrease in registration this year, and race officals agree the new Memorial Day start is to blame. Plans are to move the event back to March in 2010.
