American Olympic gold medalist will look to win his first senior world championship in Berlin.
LaShawn Merritt won the 400m in Beijing but is still overshadowed by two time world champion Jeremy Wariner. Although Wariner will not be running the 400 at this weekend’s national championship, he gets a bye to World’s as a defending champion, Merritt will look to make his mark on Hayward Field.
A fast time at this weekends national championship will likely bring Merritt one step closer to being named the favorite going in to Berlin this summer. Merritt’s seed time is only .01 off of the Hayward Field record in the event, set by Michael Johnson in 1993.
