Two time Olympian will move to Portland to join Nike elite group.

Dathan Ritzenhein recently left his coach Brad Hudson and has announced Alberto Salazar as his new coach.  Ritz will plan to move up to Portland, Ore. to join Salazar’s group which includes newly crowned US 10,000m champion Galen Rupp, world championship medalist Kara Goucher and 10,000m national champion Amy Yoder Begely.

Dathan told Compeitor.com, “I had a lot of success with Brad Hudson and he taught me a lot.  But I felt like I was lacking some of the faster components that I had earlier on in my career,” and he added, “Galen and me are the top two guys in the country this year…Alberto has been on fire…he as always been right there ready to help us so it was a natural progression for me.”

Ritzenhein will focus on the World Championship 10,000m this August and then work on besting his 5,000m and 10,000m PRs over the summer.  Before scheduling in another marathon effort, Ritz plans to attack cross country this winter, which is undoubtedly his first love.
