CARSON, CALIFORNIA (Wednesday, May 13, 2009) – With summer approaching, The Home Depot Center’s events calendar is heating up.  To celebrate, the facility will host its first-ever “Home Depot Center 5K/10K Run” on the 125-acre multi-sports campus on Father’s Day – June 21 at 8:00 a.m. to benefit The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation.  $35 registration for the run/walk includes tickets to two exciting summer sporting events at The Home Depot Center – June 28 LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo and June 21 Los Angeles Sol vs. FC Gold Pride.

The 5K/10K run/walk course highlights the grounds of the 125-acre campus of The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.  Participants will run a course that starts and finishes at the 10,000-seat track & field facility and includes running through the 27,000-seat soccer stadium, 8,000-seat tennis stadium, as well as parts of the dirt trail along Avalon Blvd. and Victoria St. in Carson, Calif.  A timing company will be used for those wishing to get their official race time from start to finish.

Registration for the event is available online now at www.homedepotcenter.com/run or by calling (877) 234-8425.  The $35 registration fee ($45 day-of) includes a ticket to the June 21 Los Angeles Sol vs. FC Gold Pride match, and the June 28 LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo game.  Upgraded registration packages are also available for participants who wish to upgrade to reserved seating for the Galaxy and Sol matches.  In addition, The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation will accept tickets from participants that wish to donate their Galaxy and/or Sol ticket and re-distribute them to local non-profit organizations.

The Sol kicked off their inaugural season in March and remain undefeated at home.  On June 21, three-time FIFA Player of the Year Marta and her teammates will take on the FC Gold Pride for the third time this season.  One week later, the LA Galaxy will welcome back the two-time MLS Cup champion Houston Dynamo to Carson in their first match-up in the 2009 campaign.

A portion of the proceeds from the 5K/10K Run will be donated to The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation, which provides financial and in-kind support for educational, recreational and social service programs to improve the lives of young people in the city of Carson and the Greater Southern California region.  The foundation has donated more than $500,000 to youth organizations since opening the facility in 2003.
