Steeplechase finalist Jamel Chatbi withdrew before today’s final.
And the first positive drug test goes to … the lucky Jamel Chatbi, a steeplechaser from the nation of Morocco!
Seriously though, it had been a clean championship before the positive test by the Morcoccan would-be steeplchase finalist. Chatbi withdrew from the final immediately after the positive test was revealed to the Morccan federation. The Morccan’s “A” sample tested positive for clenbuterol, a banned substance. In normal doses the drug is used to treat people suffering from asthma, but it is a stimulant and therefore banned during competition.
