I raced this two years ago and loved the fast flat course! Not to mention the weather :) Competitor group does a great job!!!

I was not impressed with this marathon. It was my second. I have visited San Antonio before and there is so much pretty stuff to see, so why wind us around a park for 10 miles.
The Cytomax on the course sucked but at the end I took a real bottle of it and it was not bad. Cytomax should consider this when sponsoring a race, your drink always tastes worse on the course.
The NO toilet paper issue was crazy. There was not even tp when I went before the race...and since most stop on the race are right by aid stations why could they not be refilled by someone at the aid stations.
The end was crowded, and I finished way back there so that was frustrating.
The picture people were awesome, I got a lot of different pictures of my self to chose from which was awesome!
I thought from the way the pre race materials made it sound that the music or cheerleaders would dominate the course, and it did not feel that way. When I would have been counting on the bands/cheerleaders (during the boring park part) I did not feel like they were prevalent.
The race uphill at the end was ironic, kind of cool really. Just one more hurdle before the finish.

Love the race and will do it again. They really need to have the water sponges earlier on then at the end. I needed it at mile 4 when there wasn't even a breeze. I trained in the Austin weather and humidity but that didn't help as it was still hard. Just like anything else, you just adjust to the conditions including the roads. The hill at the end, please no big deal. In Austin we train on hills all the time and that was small in comparison; however, I can see how at the end you really don't want a hill. Yes appreciate that I finished. DAustin

Three words- - - - -ORGANIZED, VOLUNTEERS, AWESOME!!!! For my first Full Marathon, this was one of the best experiences I ever went through. Will do it again next year!!!! Everyone made me feel at ease and at home.
  • Humberto
Great event, this was the first half marathon for me and my wife and it was awesome. thanks to all the volunteers and the organizers for putting together an event like this.

    See you next year.
  • Rachel
Volunteers and spectators, YOU WERE AWESOME!!! Wow! The support from everyone cheering, the sweet signs, the funny signs, the marching band!!!, the young cheerleaders, the children holding posters with scripture on them, the beer for the ladies:)...THANK YOU!!! You made this race worth every step! Oh, and I think I might be the only runner who liked the Cytomax. Those who were complaining about the humidity must not be from Texas. It was a huge race and the people resposible for organizing it have more patience than I ever could have so thank you for all of your efforts.

This would have been my 6th Full Marathon since Nov07 but I was unable to run it due a stress fracture on my leg sustained while training for this event. But I'll be back next year. Why are people complaining about the ant mound towards the end? Try running the Austin or San Francisco Marathon or the Bandera (TX) 100K, 50K, or 25K Trail Runs. Geez. And what about the Half Marathon route? Well, you might want to try running the Full next time because the route is a little nicer. Cytomax issue? Bring your own drink next time. And the weather? Can't really do much about Mother Nature now, can we? Try to train in a location replicating the same weather condition where your next big race will be. Last year was 37 degrees at the start line. Brrr. So guys and gals, appreciate running and the good people around you; and appreciate the fact that you finished. See you next year!

This was my first 1/2 marathon, I love San Antonio, I spent some time living there in 2004 to 2006 and I have some comments: More water please, there was 90% humidity. Some cracks on streets and some areas were boring during the race. The last hill climb was killing me!!! please don't do that againg.
About the family reunion, there was no indication to get to de L-Z area and it was impossible to get there because all the people going out of the event and there was no way to get to the L-Z zone with a stroller. Get out of the downtown in car was almost impossible.
    Thank you San Antonio.

This was my first half ever and what an experience it was! The volunteers and the cheerers along the way were so inspirational and awesome and got me charged up to finish. A couple of things though: some of the streets were AWFUL to run on - uneven pavement, cracks in the road. The hills, especially that LAST one at the very end - what was up with THAT?! I thought the scenery would have been better - it actually kinda sucked. And that Cytomax drink? It was more like Cytocrap.... The port-o-potties needed ATTENTION!! No paper in most of them and no hand sanitizer...gross. BUT, my overall experience of running my first half was great....just need to rethink if I will do the full next year in San Antonio.

Thank you to ALL of the GREAT volunteers who spent their time and HUGE amounts of energy just to make us runners happy! Lovelovelove you, volunteers!!

The shuttle ordeal was complete and utter nonsense. I totally lost my mojo while standing in that ridiculously long line for more than 1.5 hours at Gonzalez waiting to get onto a bus, only to be dropped off a mile from the starting village and have less than 10 minutes to get to gear check and get to my corral. Also, thanks for that last banana, whoever you are who left it sitting at that one last booth with something to drink.

The route was boring. Let me say it again...........Boooooo-RING! San Antonio is a beautiful place! Too bad it looked like we were nowhere near it for most of the course.

The family reunion layout was crap, and yes, that means my last name starts with a letter from A-K.

This was my third half marathon and my second Rock 'n ' Roll event. I wouldn't recommend this race to any of my runner friends. Overall, thumbs down, really. At least the medal is the same, even if the race blew!

IT WAS AWESOME!! This was my first 1/2 marathon and I was injured the month before so I trained for only 2 weeks. I thought the weather was GREAT!! I was actually cold while I was running...I had goosebumps miles 4-13, and someone said I didn't drink enough water. I had to walk at mile 9.5 because my ankles hurt a bit, but that was my own mental battle. I LOVED the music, the cheerleaders, the inspirational signs and my drunken San Antonians!! Who gives out beer during a marathon?? Only in SA! Loads of porta potties, loads of free Gu, and lots of people running bare foot!! My only complaint is to keep the inspirational music going in the beginning and cut the mic of the person talking waaaaay too much! Other than that and the PSYCHO hill at the end, it was great!!
