The oft-disappointed former wunderkind gets a monkey off his back.

Josh Cox, 34, of Mammoth Lakes, California was hoping for more than the second-place finish and the 2:13:51 clocking he achieved in Sunday’s California International Marathon in Sacramento. But all things considered, he cannot be disappointed. The placing is his best ever in such a competitive event and the time is a personal best, if only by three seconds. Cox has a lot of detractors, who (we think) unfairly criticize his efforts at self-promotion, but this performance ought to be enough to silence all but the most hateful and jealous among them.
