Marion Jones’ Olympic Medals Officially Redistributed

One medal from Sydney is still left in limbo.

Marion Jones’ medals in the long jump and 200m, from the Sydney Olympics, have been redistributed to women who had placed below her at the Games. After admitting she had been involved in drug use during the time of the Syndney Olympics, the International Olympic Committee decided to delete Jones from the results and change the order of medals according to the new results.

The one individual event medal that is still to be redistributed is Jones’ gold medal from the 100m. Silver medalist Katerina Thanou of Greece has since been convicted of drug use, and the IOC refuses to allow her to be elevated to the gold medal. Additionally, the relay medals of Jones’ teammates have yet to be returned and redistributed by the IOC. Rulings on the remaining medals are still to come.
