2010 Fall Running Shoe Review
Now that we’ve made it through the heat of summer it’s time to look ahead to fall events and cooler running. This is the time of year when many runners choose to put their summer training and fitness gains to the test by taking on the challenge of a half or full marathon.
Many of the shoes featured in this review will help you on your long runs necessary to train for those distances. Some feature a number of design advances that help protect your feet and cushion the impact of so many steps, while others take the minimalist approach.
In this review, we continue the Competitor approach of looking at three categories—FIT, FEEL and RIDE—to help you choose the best shoe for you. To start, you’ll need to determine your own foot characteristics, including the width of your heel, midfoot and forefoot, arch height, need for heel security, flex, motion control, cushioning, whether you are a forefoot or heel striker and your susceptibility to injuries like plantar fasciitis or bunions. Then you can apply this review as a virtual try-on in selecting a shoe that best accommodates your feet and running form.
Armed with your short list of styles and brands, you’ll be prepared to head to your local specialty running retailer and go from virtual to real as you try on shoes to hone in on the perfect pair.
