Bekele, Dibaba Lead XC Fields In Edinburgh

World record holders hope to take titles on frozen course.

Ethiopian greats Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba will headline the men’s and women’s races at this weekend’s BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country race in Endinburgh, UK. Bekele is a two time champion at the race and will serve as his debut race for 2010. The Ethiopian world record holder over 5000m and 10,000m was a double world champion in Berlin over the same distances in 2009. Looking to challenge Bekele will battle with 2009 world cross country champion Gebre Gebremariam and 2005 Endinburgh champion Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya.

Dibaba has had success in Edinburgh in the past, winning the 2005 edition of the race, as well as a world cross country title here in 2007. The five time world cross country champion will face off against Kenyan Vivian Cheryiout, the 2009 5000m world champion, and local favorite Hayley Yelling, the reigining European cross country champion.
