Female Amputee Wins 24-Hour Race, Qualifies For World Championships

Palmeiro-Winters will likely represent the US in the world championships.
Amy Palmeiro-Winters, a below-the-knee leg amputee, took the overall title at the Run to the Future 24-hour ultramarathon in Glendale, Ariz. Palmeiro-Winters ran a total of 130.04 miles to take the title over a field of men and women. With the win Palmeiro-Winters will most likely be named to the team that will represent the United States at the world 24-hour run championships in France this May. In order to qualify she needed to run more than 129.6 miles, a feat she completed on the final day of the qualifying window.
