Annual industry gathering hosted this year at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif.
The three-day Running USA Conference is a must-attend event for players in the running industry in the United States.
The 2010 conference opened Sunday afternoon just north of San Diego with an expo and a reception hosted by MapMyRun. Among the noteworthy persons seen there were American 5K record holder Marc Davis and Nick Rogers, a former 13:18 5000m runner who talked of making a low-key comeback in the marathon at age 34.
The event continues Monday with a packed schedule. Early risers and those stuck on east coast time started the day with a 6:30 AM run led by Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray and “ultramarathon man” Dean Karnazes. Following the morning breakout sessions, challenged athlete extraordinaire Sarah Reinertsen will be honored in a luncheon program, where she will receive the Women’s Running Magazine Trailblazer Award. The day’s agenda culminates in the always highly anticipated Hall of Champions Dinner and Live Auction.
Tuesday morning, Runner’s World personality Bart Yasso joins McGillivray and Karnazes in leading another early-morning run. The featured event later in the day is a “town hall meeting” hosted by television running announcer Tony Reavis and Biggest Loser star Ali Vincent. Panelists will discuss “Setting the Pace of a Healthier America.” The town hall format is a first for the Running USA Conference.
After everyone is meetinged out, conference attendees will flock into downtown Carlsbad Tuesday evening for a social event, at which, runners being runners, some beer drinking is expected.
