“We are thrilled the event was such a success in its inaugural year that even more runners registered even earlier this year,” said Elizabeth O’Brien, Event Director. “A majority of the participants are traveling to Seattle from out of town. This means not only millions of dollars for local businesses, but a community-wide focus on health and well being that is sure to continue long after event weekend. For runners still looking for a way into this year’s field, a limited number of entries remain available through the American Cancer Society, our official charity.”
In partnership with Seafair, the success of Seattle’s second Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon follows a sold-out inaugural event that attracted 25,000 runners last summer. The 2009 race generated a local economic impact of $30.8 million and 12,223 hotel room nights according to a San Diego State University study.
