800m world champion ready to defy IAAF.
South African 800m world champion Caster Semenya says she is tired of waiting for the results of the gender tests mandated by the IAAF and is ready to compete. After her win at last year’s world championships in Berlin the IAAF forced Semenya to undergo a gender test to prove she was female. The IAAF has asked Semenya to refrain from competing until the results of the tests are finalized.
Having waited for months Semenya has announced she will no longer wait for the results and plans to race as soon as this week. In a public announcement Semenya said, “These processes have dragged on for far too long with no reasonable certainty as to their end. The result is that my athletic capabilities and earning potential is being severely compromised.”
