LaSportiva Raptor ($110) — Cousin: Salomon XT Wings—

As a protective and rugged trail shoe, the stable Raptor fit rather closely. The combination of plastic, rubber and overlays with stabilizers and a midsole shank kept our testers’ feet free from bone bruising, although those with wider feet felt cramped.  The Raptor is a classic, well-made trail shoe for runners with low-volume feet who like to challenge themselves on rugged terrain.
