We’re not seeing this one. Money is not the only requirement for a good Olympic host city. You also need a large and receptive population to embrace the Games, buy tickets, and give the Games a sense of place. Dubai is not that kind of city. It is relatively small and remote, it lacks history and identity, and it is populated primarily by foreign opportunity seekers. It seems the only way a Dubai Olympics could succeed would be if became a tourist thing to a degree that no other Olympics has.
