The Kenyan has won three London titles.
Three-time Virgin London Marathon champion Martin Lel has been forced to withdraw for the second consecutive year. Lel said it is prolonged shin pain that has forced him to miss the 2010 race.
Lel most recently won the 2010 Rock ‘n’ Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon in New Orleans, where he defeated fellow countryman and Olympic gold medalist Sammy Wanjiru. Lel had hoped the win was a good sign for his comeback and potential fourth London title this spring as the race was to pit him against Wanjiru for the second time this spring. With Lel out of the race it looks like Wanjiru will be the favorite going in to race day.
