We can only hope Anthony Gaskell’s side of the story is true.
The man originally credited as the winner of the men’s 65+ division of this year’s Flora London Marathon has been disqualified. He was betrayed by his timing chip data, which showed that it had taken him less than an hour to reach the finish line from the halfway point. Gaskell claims he never intended to cheat, but took a shortcut to the finish line to retrieve his warm-up gear after dropping out of the race with an injury shortly past the halfway point.
