American finishes third amongst a loaded field in Zurich on Thursday night.

Chris Solinsky continued his summer track tear, running 12:56.45 to place third in the 5,000 meters at the Weltklasse Diamond League Meeting Thusday night in Zurich, Switzerland.

Ethiopian Tariku Bekele won the race in 12:55.03 with a convincing kick over the final 400 meters. Bekele’s countryman, Imane Merga, finished second in 12:56.34.

It was the third sub-13 minute performance for Solinsky this season, who ran 12:55.53 in Stockholm earlier this month to become the second-fastest American ever at the distance. Bernard Lagat holds the American Record at 12:54.12.

Solinsky’s Oregon Track Club teammate, Galen Rupp, placed 12th in the race, crossing the finish line 13:07.35, a three-second personal best. Great Britain’s Mo Farah became the first Briton to break the 13-minute barrier, clocking a 12:57.94 to finish fifth in the 16-man field.
