IAAF hoping to see the sport become part of winter program in 2018.

Officials from the International Association of Athletics Federations have prepared and submitted a questionnaire to the International Olympic Committee concerning the review of the schedule for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The organization is pushing for the addition of cross country running to traditional winter sports such as ice skating, luge and skiing.

The IOC will review the questionnaire, which has the support of former world cross country champion Paul Tergat or Kenya and marathon world-record holder Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia.
