He’ll be lining up against the great Haile Gebrselassie at the New York City Marathon in November, but apparently just one matchup against the marathon world record holder this fall isn’t enough for American Dathan Ritzenhein.

The 27-year-old, who trains under coach Alberto Salazar as part of the Oregon Track Club Elite program in Portland, Oregon, has announced he will take part in the BUPA Great North Run on September 19 in England. Gebrselassie announced last week he will be making his Great North Run debut this fall, while Ritzenhein will be returning to the place where he made his 13.1-mile debut four years ago.

“We’re delighted to get Dathan on board again,” said Peter Riley, the elite athletes manager of the event. “He’s helping to lead the way in the renaissance of American running and the half marathon distance suits him perfectly.”
