Kelai, Kosgei Win Commonwealth Games Marathons

Kenyans continue distance dominance in India.
Kenya’s John Ekiru Kelai won the men’s marathon and compatriot Irene Jerotich Kosgei took the women’s title on Thursday at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.
Kelai crossed the finish line in 2:14:35, becoming the second Kenyan to win Commonwealth gold in the marathon. Michael Shelley of Australia took silver in 2:15:28, 30 seconds ahead of Kelai’s countryman, Amos Tirop Matui.
Kosgei became the first Kenyan woman to win the event at The Commonwealth Games, posting a time of 2:34:32 to claim victory. Kosgei’s teammate, Irene Mogake, claimed silver in 2:34:43, while Namibia’s Beata Naigambo took bronze in 2:35:25.
