The dog was threatening the man’s seven-year-old son.

A jogger from Port St. Lucie, Flordia killed a large black lab-chow mix with his bare hands last Saurday. The victim, Josh Harris, had apparently been jogging down the street with his seven-year-old son riding his bike ahead of Harris when the incident occurred.

The unleashed dog had been staring at Harris and his son as the two passed by its owner’s house.  Harris then told his son to get behind them. That’s when the 85-100-pound dog attacked.

Harris managed to incapacitate the dog, but was badly injured according to police. He was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital and his current condition is not known. Harris’ son was unharmed.

The dog’s owner, Peggy Hamilton, indicated she wasn’t aware the dog had been running free. She indicated its shots were current, but wasn’t sure about rabies, which will mandate a test for the harmful virus.
