Travelers can now leave their running shoes at home.
The Westin Hotel chain is doing something unprecedented: loaning out New-Balance-brand running shoes and workout gear. The “gear lending” program was launched Tuesday. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, women get the following: Capri pants, a sports bra, shirt, socks and shoes, while men receive shirt, shorts, socks and shoes.
But what about cleanliness?
According to a spokesperson for Westin, the gear will undergo the same hot-water laundering that hotel sheets and towels undergo. Additionally, the exterior of the shoes are to be cleaned and the inner soles will be replaced.
Is this clean enough for traveling runners? “Yes,” says Jenn Blazejewsk, a management consultant who runs while she travels. “Running socks aren’t very intimate compared with bed sheets and towels,” she says.
Westin and New Balance are splitting the cost of the new service.
One of the program’s first customers, John Dunkum, liked the experience. “It was nice not having to travel home with sweaty clothes,” he said.
