Kenyans dominated the marathon, while a Baylor University senior won the half.

James Kirwa of Kenya won the Metro PCS Dallas White Rock Marathon on Sunday. He broke the tape in 2:18:40. He last ran in Dallas at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in March. Kirwa’s victory was hard-fought as he dueled with fellow Kenyan, Edward Tabut throughout the race. Tabut was the defending champion going into the race. Kirwa surged with a mile to go and was able to drop Tabut.

In the half marathon, Jeff Sadler of Waco, Texas won the men’s half in 1:09:34. Sadler is a senior at Baylor University. The women’s half-marathon winner was McKale Davis, who crossed the line in 1:18:33.

A total of 22,000 runners took part in the marathon, half marathon, and relay. The race was held in ideal conditions: 35-degrees and mostly sunny skies.
