’Tis The Season: Runners Brave An “Egg Nog Mile”

Runners had to down one glass of the sweet holiday drink before each lap of the race.

They did it for the fundraising.

Last Saturday, 50 brave souls participated in the first annual Egg Nog Mile on the Twentynine Palms High School’s track. The event was organized to support the school’s track team. Over $200 was raised in the event.

Like the traditional “beer mile” participants line up on the track and then run four laps. A cup of egg nog must be swallowed before each lap is completed. The winner of the race was Colton Byers who completed the mile in 5:51. The team’s assistant coach, Rick Buckles won the adult division. First place for each division was a $10 Subway gift card.

“It was a great start to what we hope will be a community tradition many years in the future. I wanted a perpetual fundraiser to go along with our annual jog-a-thon. Something that could combine the season, the community, and of course competition,” said Coach Ronda Lockett-Morton.
