La Sportiva Crossover GTX–($150)

Designed to combat the type of winter slop you’re likely to encounter on mountain trails, the Crossover GTX with its integrated GORE-Tex zippered gaiter, upper lining and aggressive outsole bite had our testers saying “bring it on!” to severe conditions. Like La Sportiva’s other svelte mountain racing footwear, the Crosslite and Skylite, the Crossover has a foot-hugging fit that may be too tight of an embrace for those with bigger-proportioned feet, although the dual-density midsole is substantial enough to support runners with larger frames.
Tester’s Take: “Great trail shoe, good traction up and down hills, and the built-in gaiter is an innovative idea that is perfect for snow.”
