One runner is a 1:06 half marathoner.
A small field of elite runners has been assembled to compete in this year’s Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon, which will be held on March 6. One such runner is Kota Reichert of Menlo Park, California. His PR is 2:28:33, which he set at the Air Force Marathon in Dayton, Ohio.
Suprisingly, Reichert, a 27-year-old former collegiate runner at UC San Diego and the University of Puget Sound, says he’s not interested in times at this point in his career.
“Overall, at this point in my racing, most of the races I enter, I’m looking more for good competition and the times,” said Reichart. “I’d rather have a competitive race than one where I could go in and know that I’m going to win. That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy winning.”
However, Reichert admits he’s not the pre-race favorite. That honor belongs with Kevin Pool. Pool came in 24th at this year’s U.S. Half-Marathon championships with a 1:06:30.
The Napa Valley Marathon is now in its 33rd year. A total of 2,400 runners are signed up to compete in it.
