His wife thinks he’s crazy.

No this isn’t an early April Fool’s joke. According to an article posted on the Chicago Sun-Times‘ Web site, a runner from Palentine, Illinois is training for the Los Angeles Marathon on a diet consisting solely of McDonald’s food. The runner’s name is Joe D’Amico and he’s hardly a back-of-the-pack competitor. With a marathon PR of 2:36, D’Amico thinks his fast-food diet will help him run even faster.

“My wife told me I was crazy,” D’Amico, said. “But I love McDonald’s and I love running, and this was a great way to combine the two.”

So far, D’Amico has been eating three meals a day for the past two weeks at the world’s most-famous fast-food restaurant.

Here’s D’Amico’s typical menu:

Breakfast: hot cakes, an Egg McMuffin and an orange juice.

Lunch: grilled chicken sandwich with a large Coke.

Dinner: hamburger, fries and a cookie.

D’Amico says his only deviation is a daily multivitamin, tap water, and an energy gel on the run.
