Exercising more and smoking less are two reasons why Minneapolis-St. Paul is the healthiest city in America, according to a report by the American College of Sports Medicine that ranked the 50 healthiest and fittest metropolitan areas in the U.S.
The report used the American Fitness Index, which uses personal health and environmental factors as guides, and looked at health behaviors, levels of chronic disease conditions, health care access and community resources and policies that support physical activity.
Each of these factors was scored from least to most important based on how significant it is to the city, and then standardized to a scale using the AFI. Each city was given a score out of 100.
