Coffee: Helping endurance athletes get out of bed every morning.

Today is National Coffee Day, a day to celebrate the that magical beverage which helps most of us get out of bed for an early morning workout. Several large chain coffee brewers are giving away or discounting a cuppa Joe to their customers today to celebrate. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. today 7-Eleven will be offering free medium coffees and Krispy Kreme is giving out free 12-ounce coffees to their guests all day.

According to CNBC, Americans drink an estimated 400 million cups of coffee per day, and there is no doubt endurance athletes are make up a large percentage of this number. Caffeine, in regulated doses, has long been one of the only legal stimulants for athletes, used for its energy-boosting and performance enhancing effects. However, the caffeine in coffee not only gives users a jolt, but also several health benefits that you can read more about here.

So go out and celebrate the drink that helps you get out of bed every morning and enjoy your second or third cup of the day!
