Even if today is your rest day, lace up your shoes for a quick easy run because today is the sixth National RUN@WORK Day. Presented by the Road Runners Club of America, this nationwide event is held each year in hopes of inspiring anyone and everyone to get at least 30 minutes of exercise before, during or after work.

RUN@WORK is encouraging employers to schedule a 30-minute running event for their employees and provide incentives for those who participate.

The goal of National RUN@WORK day is to encourage adults to get 30 minutes of exercise as recommended by the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans to combat the shockingly high obesity rate of Americans. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 64% of Americans are either overweight or obese and the Center for Disease Control reports it is costing $75.8 billion dollars in medical costs each year.

For those located in the Dallas area take advantage of race discounts for the second Annual Rahr Oktoberfest 5k on Sept. 24, the second Annual Trek or Treat 5k Run & Walk on Oct. 29 and the Arbor Day Run 5k/10k Run & Fun Walk on Nov. 12. Visit DFW Runs’ Facebook page for discount codes.
