He had told his wife he was volunteering in the races.

It’s one thing to get caught having an affair, but it’s quite another to get caught by your spouse running half marathons. This strange tale unfolded in Lockleaze, Bristol, England when 90-year-old Wilf Cooper, a former British commando, was caught by his wife of 67 years completing 13.1-mile races.

He had secretly raced six half marathons after telling wife Sylvia that he was going to stand on the sidelines as a spectator.

His times are impressive for his age, clocking the distance in a little over three hours.

“I only found out he ran it because the neighbour told me they’d seen him on the television,” his wife said. “He was in the doghouse that day, I can tell you.’

Cooper had even once snuck out after sustaining a dislocated shoulder and broken ribs after a fall.

“I always like the feeling you get from exercise,” Cooper said. “I stay fit to stay healthy. I’ve got a static bike and a rowing machine and a few weights. I also go up and down the stairs 10 times and I do that three times a day.”
