Most runners flocking to “Sin City” this weekend for the Zappos.com Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas have their bags packed with the essentials: running shoes, GUs, and sleek singlets. But for some, they are bringing some completely different running attire: high heels.
On Saturday, the day before the marathon and half marathon, women (and some men, presumably) will be strapping on their heels for a good cause. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Stiletto Dash presented by the Palazzo brings in “Dancing with the Stars’” Brooke Burke to host the event, which entails running as fast as you can in heels for 50 yards.
The unique race is for a good cause; it benefits two charities: the local Las Vegas-based Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities, and Operation Smile, a nonprofit that treats facial deformities such as cleft lips and palates worldwide.
Close to 500 participants are expected to compete in multiple heats. The overall winner will receive $5,000.
