Japanese superstar Yuki Kawauchi also taking part.
The 66th edition of the Maragume Half Marathon in Japan is fast approaching. It should be an exciting race this Sunday when several top-ranked Kenyans square off against one another.
The pre-race favorite is Matthew Kisorio, who is a sub-13:00 5,000m runner and the fourth-place finisher at last year’s World Cross Country Championships. Recently, he finished third in a cross-country race in Edlroet behind Wilson Kiprop and Geoffrey Mutai.
But Kisorio isn’t assured of the win in Japan.
He will be facing off against current Maragume Half Marathon course-record holder Mekubo Mogusu, who considers Japan a second home after he attended school in Yamanashi prefecture.
However, the race isn’t entirely a Kenyan affair as Japan’s own Yuki Kawauchi will also be taking part. Kawauchi is a celebrity in Japan due to the fact that he holds down a full-time job and runs 2:08 in the marathon. Kawauchi is using the race as a tune-up for the Tokyo Marathon that is taking place later this month.
