Kenenisa Bekele Returns To The Track In Doha

The Diamond League season kicks off on May 11 in Doha.

The world-famous Samsung Diamond League is gearing up for a huge season. On May 11, some of the greatest distance runners in the world will toe the line in Doha, Qatar.

Four of the top stars that were announced are Kenenisa Bekele, Vivian Cheruiyot, Genzebe Dibaba and Pamela Jelimo.

Though he’s been struggling with injury as of late, Bekele remains the 5000m and 10,000m world-record holder. He has earned a stunning 16 world titles on the track and in cross-country.

On the women’s side, Cheruiyot is the reigning 5000m and 10,000m world champion. She enjoyed a fantastic 2011 season.

In the middle-distance events, Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia has enjoyed an excellent 2012 indoor season, winning the world 1,500m title in Istanbul last month.

Pamela Jelimo is the 2008 Olympic 800m champion and has been on the comeback trail as evidenced by a gold medal performance at the world indoor championships in Istanbul.

Along with these top-four runners, Abubaker Kaki of Sudan was also confirmed to race in Doha. He is a two-time world indoor champion in the 800m event.
