TrailStriders Running Vacations offers the ideal getaway for active individuals looking to relax.
It’s the perfect combination of relaxation and running. With a scenic group run in the morning followed by a day of beach going or relaxing poolside, a TrailStriders running vacation is the perfect escape for a runner. Offering running vacations in Hawaii, Arizona and Alberta, Canada, TrailStriders runners have the option of tropical or mountain running and everything else on a runner’s dream vacation wish list: home-cooked meals prepared by a private chef, yoga and cooking classes, inspiring speakers and tips from the pros.
As runners themselves, the directors of TrailStriders know what runners want on vacation and that often it is not the all-you-can eat buffet or a closet-sized gym. “Most runners are pretty passionate about their sport and work hard to stay in shape so it’s nice to be able to take a vacation that incorporates relaxation, yoga, clean eating as well as some dedicated running time instead of the typical coma you get from overeating and drinking at the all inclusive beach style holiday,” said Amy Golumbia, registered nutritionist and TrailStriders camp director. “We want our guests to go home feeling way better than when they left.”
Trail Striders understands the need for runners to get some sweat time and explore on the run while also finding time to relax and de-stress. “These vacations aren’t just about running. There will be lots of time to relax, get a massage, tour local farmer’s markets and shopping areas, lay on the beach, swim, and just get to know other runners and share stories and ideas,” explained Golumbia. “We’ll be doing at least one run option per day. Anything from a jungle run to a waterfall, to crater running, to beach running.”
Vacation packages include accommodations, all meals, guided group runs for all levels of runners, yoga classes and transportation during the three-to-six day trips. Meals are prepared daily by a private chef under the guidance of Golumbia with a few meals off-site at a local restaurant—the Maui vacation includes a luau. Golumbia emphasizes fresh and local ingredients in every meal and works with a local chef to ensure vacation goers receive excellent and nutritious food. “We’ve sourced out some incredible local farmers and have ordered fresh avocado, coconut, mangoes, fresh farm eggs and more. We’re even doing a little bit of harvesting at one of the farms ourselves for those guests who are interested. We’ll be eating ‘clean’ all week, and learning how to fuel the body for optimal performance,” said Golumbia, who also founded JumpStart Nutrition. Trail Striders running vacations also offer the opportunity for runners to rub shoulders with some of the best athletes in the sport. Ultrarunner and American Trail Running Association president Adam Chase, along with Run SMART coach, Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier and 120-mile Transrockies run winner Mike Smith, will be there leading runs, answering questions and offering advice.
Smith says the best part of the vacation is the camaraderie that develops among the groups and the friendships that develop. “Meeting people along the way—that’s one of the best things about running,” Smith said. “Our vacation really allows you to meet people and build friendships. That’s one of my favorite parts. And it’s a bonus—it’s not something we planned on. You’ll make some great friends and some great memories.”
