The double gold medalist is taking on the 2-mile event.
The Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix – Samsung Diamond League on August 26 is going to be huge.
Mo Farah huge.
The double distance gold medalist (5,000m and 10,000m) in the London Olympics earlier this month will be taking part in the race this Sunday.
The race that the Somali-born Brit will be tackling is the obscure 2-mile distance. In Farah’s sights is Steve Ovett’s record on 8:13.51.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix,” said Farah, who is coached by Alberto Salazar. “It was a special atmosphere there last year and another victory would be great. It’s a big year for athletics in the UK. The crowd has really got behind me on home soil in 2012, and I’m sure they’ll be in high spirits to cheer on the returning Olympic contingent in Birmingham.”
Farah currently trains in Portland, Oregon with fellow Nike teammate, Galen Rupp who finished behind Farah in the Olympic 10,000m in London.
