The mark had only held for two years.

The small country of Denmark has a new all-comer’s marathon record holder and his name is Luka Kipkemboi Chelimo. Last Sunday at the Hans Christian Anderson Marathon, the 34-year-old Kenyan ran 2:10:37, which set the country’s all-comer’s record.

This was a four-second improvement over the previous mark that had been set in the race two years ago.

In the race itself, the pace was relatively even with a pack of five crossing the half in 1:05:28. However, after that point, it was Chelimo’s race to lose when he made a quick surge that gapped the other runners.

“I am very happy for winning here. Today the weather was perfect, not like on Saturday,” Chelimo said.

A serial marathoner, Chelimo is known to compete in international races.

Last year, he ran seven marathons and won an impressive four.

Despite his record on Sunday, the race was not a personal best. His current marathon PR is 2:10:11 that was set two years ago.

In the women’s race, Emely Chepkorir prevailed in 2:34:48.
