The Frankfurt Marathon will be a real footrace.

Organizers of the BMW Frankfurt Marathon announced yesterday that they put together quite an elite field for their race in October.

Yemane Tsegay and Bazu Worku, both Ethiopians, along with Kenyans Albert Matebor and Gilbert Kirwa have been added to the IAAF Gold Label race that takes place on October 28.

These runners will be out to take down one man: world-record holder Patrick Makau.

“I have seen the course today and it looks very good,” Makau said at a a press conference. “If everything is perfect on race day – my form, the weather and the pacemaking – then a world record might be possible.”

Last year, Makau clocked 2:03:38 in Berlin to become the world’s fastest man to cover 26.2 miles on a certified course.

“So far my training went very well,” Makau added. “I had no problems or injuries and the form is similar to last year. But of course a lot of training and especially speedwork is still to come in the weeks ahead.”
