Forty thousand runners signed up in three-and-a-half hours.
Registration for the 2013 BMW Berlin Marathon has closed, organizers announced this afternoon, just hours after the process opened at noon local time. The participation limit of 40,000 runners was reached after three and a half hours. Last year the race took six weeks to reach capacity. The 2013 edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon takes place on September 29th.
Berlin, which along with the Boston, New York, Chicago and London marathons makes up the World Marathon Majors Series, is known for its fast course and ideal conditions. The current men’s marathon world record of 2:03:38, held by Kenya’s Patrick Makau, was reached in Berlin in 2011. This past September, Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai won the race in a swift 2:04:15.
