Kenenisa’s younger brother is on the hunt for a New Year’s Eve win.

Tonight, the The 48th ‘San Silvestre Vallecana’, an IAAF Silver Label race, kicks off in Madrid, Spain. Over 39,000 runners will be taking part in the 10K race.

Among the elites is Tariku Bekele. The 25-year-old, who is a 2008 World indoor champion, will be there to exact revenge on rival Ayad Lamdassem of Spain, who defeated Bekele in the Portsmouth 10-mile race by a second. In that race, Lamdassem placed second while Bekele took third.

The course is challenging with many turns and hills. Lamdessem may have an edge as he has run the race in the past.

In addition to Bekele and Lamdassem, 41-year-old José Manuel Martínez, the 2010 European Championship silver medalist in the marathon, will be racing.

The women’s race should be equally exciting with Kenya’s Linet Masai, a world 10,000m champion, toeing the line against Gelete Burka of Ethiopia.

Burka is a world 1500m champion.

Masai, who is 23, hopes to win her first race on Spanish soil.
