Bloomington, Minn., home of the Mall of America, will once again host the Women’s Running Bloomington Half Marathon on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Part of a national series of half marathons uniquely catered toward women, the Women’s Running Half Marathon will start and finish in Normandale Lake Park.

“We are thrilled to return to Bloomington for our second year,” said Dana Allen, General Manager of The Women’s Half Marathon Series. “The course is beautiful and having the world famous Mall of America just down the street will ensure our runners have an incredible and memorable race weekend.”

The Women’s Running Half Marathon features a patent-pending two-in-one finisher’s medal and charm, a technical race shirt, cheer stations on course and a post-race party featuring a cookie café with freshly baked cookies. With tax-free shopping at Mall of America, wine and gourmet cuisine in the area, participants will be able to tie the race into a fun girl’s weekend.

“We are very excited to welcome back the Women’s Running Half Marathon,” said Todd Lehrke, Associate Director of Sports Development at the Bloomington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Known as the City of Hospitality, Bloomington is the home to the famous Mall of America and 38 wonderful hotels, and is the ideal location for this event.”

Ramada Airport Bloomington serves as both the host hotel and the location of a two-day Health and Fitness Expo. The expo is free and open to the public, and features women-specific apparel and merchandise, book signings by running celebrities and packet and t-shirt pickup for runners.

“Our convenient location close to the Minneapolis/ St. Paul International Airport makes it easy to arrive, and the Mall of America is a great place for shopping and entertainment. Our commitment will continue to make this event a great success for years to come,” Lehrke adds.
