The training partners will be hitting the streets of the Crescent City at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on Sunday.

Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan aren’t just training partners; they are good friends.

The pair will be uniting at this weekend’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in New Orleans.

For both Goucher and Flanagan, this race will be all about getting prepared for the Boston Marathon, which takes place in April.

“I wanted a race where I could get back into racing in a supportive and positive environment,” Goucher said. “And I wanted to test my fitness with seven weeks to still prepare for Boston. It gives me a good indication of where I’m at and how much farther I have to go.”

Goucher and Flanagan, who train with coach Jerry Schumacher in Portland, Oregon, last raced together at the London Olympic Games where they garnered 11th and 10th respectively.

“Leading the Olympics running stride for stride with Shalane was one of the most memorable experiences of my career. Unfortunately that only lasted 13 miles,” Goucher admitted.
