The Color Run™, a unique paint race founded by Travis Snyder,  has become the single largest 5K event series in the nation. Organizers expect to host one million participants at events across the country in 2013.

Snyder will share his expertise at the upcoming Running USA 2013: The 10th Industry Conference, to be held in Savannah, Georgia from Feb. 24 to 26. Snyder’s session with conference participants will be titled: “Capture the Crowd: How to grow a big participant base, fast.” Register for the event here.

The Color Run has exploded since their debut event in January of 2012 and was recently featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter. The paint event will grow from over 50 events and 600,000 participants in 2012, to over 100 events and a projected one million participants in 2013.

Within the first month of 2013, The Color Run had more than 150,000 participants registered for the events. Their growth has been largely viral and the event has received close to one million “likes” on Facebook and over four million YouTube views in its first year.

The paint race also focuses on giving back, choosing a local charity in each city they visit, and has raised donations for over 60 local and national charities in 2012.

Snyder, the Founder and Executive Director of The Color Run, is the mastermind behind paint style events. Travis is a triathlete and avid runner. He began creating his own running events 10 years ago and in an effort to create a nonthreatening running environment where professional and novice runners could come together and enjoy the purity of the sport, The Color Run was born.

The Color Run celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality, bringing the community together to create a five-kilometer canvas of colorful fun.

“We call The Color Run the ‘happiest 5K on the planet’ because our events bring together friends and family in a unique, healthy, and fun environment,” said Snyder. “Our only rules are that people wear white and prepare to be covered in color at the finish!”

“Color Runners,” as they are called, vary in demographics and reasons for running. With no winners or official times, The Color Run caters to anyone – 2 year olds to 80 year olds, first time runners to professional athletes.

Over 60 percent of Color Runners are first-time 5k runners and participate as a celebration and capstone of their healthy living accomplishments. Others participate to honor loved ones who have passed or are fighting diseases. The Color Run event has also sparked approximately 12 marriage proposals and one wedding.
