The race also serves as the U.S. 10-mile championship.
The 2013 edition of the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run will be packed with American talent. According to a report posted on Running USA, three U.S. Olympians will be competing for a win in the women’ race: Janet Cherebon-Bawcom, Jen Rhines and Colleen De Reuck.
The April 7 event serves as the U.S. 10-Mile Championships.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Allan Kiprono is back to defend his title. He squares off against last year’s runner-up, Lani Kiplagat.
“I’m pleased to have both course record holders entered in this year’s race,” race director Phil Stewart said. “Colleen De Reuck set the still-standing women’s course record of 51:16 back in 1998, when she was competing for the Republic of South Africa, and Allan Kiprono set the men’s course record just last year in a time of 45:15, which was the fastest 10-mile time of the year and the fifth fastest all-time.”
A total of $50,000 will be offered up in prize money for the top 10 male and female finishers.
