Craig Miller and Heather Kampf hope to repeat their victories.

Next month in St. Paul, Minn., the nation’s top milers will lace up their flats and go all-out to try and win the Medtronic TC 1 Mile.

Approximately 3,000 runners will take part in the annual race, and at the front will be defending champions Craig Miller and Heather Kampf. The total prize purse for the elite runners in the field is $25,000.

Kampf is a hometown favorite, as she trains in Minnesota. Following last year’s event, she went on to finish in the top 10 in the 800m at Olympic Trials.

Miller battled not only a demanding field, but also a stiff headwind to prevail in 4:04.30 last year. In 2011 he finished third, and owns an impressive 3:56:41 personal best for the mile.

“Heather and Craig were great champions last year and we’re thrilled to have them signed up to run with us again this year,” Twin Cities in Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said.
