French soldier prevails in his fourth career marathon.

Abraham Kiprotich of France was the men’s winner of the Daegu International Marathon on Sunday.

His time was 2:08:33 — a two-second PR improvement.

Kiprotich is Kenyan-born and serves as a solider in the prestigious French Foreign Legion. For the Frenchman, it was his first marathon win in four outings.

“I was planning to finish in around 2:06 today, and I told the pacemakers repeatedly to pick up the pace, but we had strong wind against us at that final stage of the race,” he said afterward.

Boniface Mvubi of Kenya was second, while Debebe Tolossa took third in 2:10:23.

Kiprotich made his move near the 30K mark and ended up crossing the line more than a minute ahead of his competitors.

All three podium finishers in the women’s race bettered the previous course record.

First place went to Margaret Akai of Kenya, who ran a PR of 2:23:28. Mulu Seboka was good for second, and Agnes Barsosio finished third.
