Over $8,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

On Aug. 9, some of the best masters milers in the United States will toe the line in Pittsburgh, Pa. The runners will be competing in the 2013 USA Masters 1 Mile Road Championship to be contested at the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile.

This is the first time since 1989 that these championships are being held.

According to Running USA, the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile offers over $31,000 in prize money.

From a Masters perspective, that purse is $8,000 spread across overall, club, and age-graded divisions. The overall winners will net $600 each.

“We expect the caliber of our event and depth of our prize purse to attract world-class Masters runners and also to produce some exciting racing,” said race director Patrice Matamoros. “There is no better place to become a champion than Pittsburgh.”

The course is a fast one and point-to-point in nature.

Sonja Friend-Uhl and William Zink won the masters division in the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile race last year.
